History

The National Gallery School of Visual Arts and Design, originating from the 1960s Workshop School by Frank McEwen, nurtured talents like Henry Munyaradzi. It became the BAT Workshop Studio after independence, expanding art education and producing artists like Portia Zvavahera. Renamed in 2011, it introduced theoretical courses and partnered with Harare Polytechnic. Since 2016, it’s been a HEXCO-recognized center offering National Certificates and Diplomas in Art and Design.

Art and Design Courses

The National Gallery School offers a Certificate of Achievement and Competence, a National Certificate in Applied Art and Design for comprehensive training, and a National Diploma in Fine Art for advanced specialization, preparing students for professional art careers.
